From Regional Pony Club to International Competition...

In her early years, Trish Braithwaite was a mad keen "pony clubber" from the age of three; progressing from gymkhanas and sports days to competing as a “hackie”... Eventually moving to the more exciting worlds of dressage and eventing.

Living and working in Kuala Lumpur and Jakarta from 1998, Trish gained her EA NCAS Level 1 (General) certification through the Malaysian Equine Council.  She then spent the next few years in the active competition scene.  Coaching, training and managing horses for Eventing, Showjumping and Dressage in Malaysia and Indonesia.

A highlight from this time was winning Malaysia’s 2006 National Eventing 1* Championship with her personally-trained French Thoroughbred “Krystallos”, and grooming for a month with the Malaysian Eventing Team that same year at the Asian Games in Doha, Qatar.

Trish returned to Australia early 2009, keen to explore the equestrian scene and coaching opportunities.

As part of her commitment to her own professional education, in 2012 Trish trained on Lusitano stallions in Portugal with Don Francisco De Braganca at Quinta do Archino (http://bit.ly/XQBGjt) and also Rodrigo da Costa Matos, who was the principal Rider of the Escola Portuguesa d’Arte Equestre and head instructor of Morgado Lusitano Training Centre (http://www.morgadolusitano.pt/).

In 2014, Trish travelled to Orlando, Florida to train with FEI 5* Level judge and Grand Prix trainer, Ms Anne Gribbons.  An intense, exciting month of riding Prix St George on the cutest Swedish warmblood!

Trish's professional development in 2016 continued, training in Germany with         Ms Nicole Weinauge  www.nicoleweinauge.de.  Nicole's approach to and understanding of equine biomechanics, classical training and horsemanship knits perfectly with Trish's equestrian philosophies, inspiring her to follow up a clinic with Nicole in Australia with a visit to her home base in Hamburg!

Thanks to Covid, training trips were delayed until May 2023, when Trish joined a couple of her students to ride under Portuguese Olympian João Torrão on fabulous Lusitanos at Monte Velho Equo-resort, near Lisbon. Diogo Lima Mayer and his staff have created a truly world class and yet down-to-earth working equestrian facility, that has to be seen to be believed. The opportunity to boost her own riding and training technique, plus observe João's and Bernado Neves' coaching styles is one that she looks to repeat very soon. Who would like to join?

After 20+ years of education as an EA Dressage Judge, Trish has decided to retire from judging. Reaching the level where she was judging horses competing at Prix St George, it has been an amazing and huge learning experience. Now she has more time for students and clinics! As a full time coach, Trish travels around South East Queensland to students, equestrian centres, and clubs to help riders on their journey.

Her careful attention to riders’ position, management of the horse and training the combination of horse and rider as a whole appeals to her broad base of discerning students.
